Synthetic chemists in our group work in close collaboration with engineers to examine the structural and functional properties of these materials and prepare devices such as OLEDs, solar cells and carbon nanotube-based devices. We combine approaches from materials chemistry, materials science and physics to study the behavior of self-assembled systems. In addition, we apply soft materials in novel ways to enhance device performance through nanoscale control of molecular structure and device architecture. A special emphasis of this group is the organically templated mineralization of inorganic nano-objects and the assembly of inorganic nanoparticles on organic scaffolds for the creation of sensors and chiral catalytic materials.
